Samsung NC10-14GB Laptop Batteries|Li-ion AA-PB8NC6M battery
Superb long battery Samsung NC10-14GB life:
Delivering up to 8 hours of AA-PB8NC6B battery life, the NC10 will let you surf the Web to your hearts delight. I gave it a heavy test by
running multiple programs in the background while running streaming and
got 5.5hrs with 20 minutes left on the battery. Netbooks are supposed to be for "portability" and if
your netbook can't get a decent charge and sustain it, that pretty much
takes away it's ability to do so.
Even using Wi-Fi and having several memory hungry programs running, the
worst I could do was five hours and I came dangerously close to seven
hours at least one time.
Samsung NC10-14GB Product Description:
1. Speedy laptop. It gets the job done.
Solidly built, nice big clicky keyboard, bright, easy to read screen with sufficient resolution, nice overall layout and design.
Light as a feather and small enough footprint to slip easily into my
purse and take anywhere without effort or even having to remove things
from my (admittedly rather large) purse to fit it.
2. The keyboard is excellent,The keyboard is firm and responsive, with well-spaced keys that have a
good amount of travel. The tactile feedback is great--in fact, they
feel like a slightly smaller version of a really good ThinkPad
keyboard. I've tried the keyboards on most of the current netbooks on
the market. The Samsung gets the keyboard just right. It's 95% the size of a
"normal" laptop keyboard, the keys have a great feel to them, and
working on the Samsung NC10-14GB doesn't feel cramped at all. Nearly normal size, and just as important is that the Right shift key is nearly perfect.
3. Very bright-clear 10.2 screen - the screen really gives you the perfect amount of screen real estate and is a real advantage over 9" models. The 10.2" is bright and sharp, though the oddball resolution of 1024 x
600 is a bit inconvient from time to time. The much criticized touchpad
isn't all that bad, but it is far from ideal. It is barely usable, but
it does work and you get better with it the more you use it.
4. Bright, crisp screen
- some people prefer the glossy screen found on the Dell
mini, but the Samsung NC10 has a great screen. Perfect viewing angles,
brightness, and excellent resolution. Very good screen: above average viewing angles, very bright, razor-sharp, and not glossy.
5. The volume "stereo speakers", though not as loud as full sized notebook
computers is acceptable for a 'netbook' in my opinion. To be
specific--a quality sound with a bit of bass though not the loudest. Audio through the onboard speakers is fair. Don't try using it in a
room with even a moderate amount of noise - the internal speakers will
be swamped. Frequency coverage of the internal speakers is what you
would expect:" Headphone listening is more than adequate -
and the built-in Bluetooth is a blessing with Bluetooth headphones.
6. The webcam is very good for skyping.
I use it to video chat with my family in Texas, and the video and audio quality is about equal to my set up on my desktop pc.
delivering an image that puts that of the built-in webcam on my Dell to
shame - though, admittedly, that is not a major challenge.
7. Performance:
Web surfing: That's what these little guys were made for. No problems surfing or streaming video on Youtube.
Higher Performance Apps: I have tried to run some high quality
compressed MP4 movies on the NC10, and it handles them OK. There are
some screen artifacts from time to time and some lag. This was also the
only application I was running at the time, so I think it would trip on
itself, if I was trying to surf and watch a high quality video. Sound quality (when using headphones): the internal sound card produces
clean sound with plenty of bass when using headphones. There is no
noise/electrical interference with the sound output.
8. I mostly web surf, word process, and listen to music. Even then the
Samsung NC10 is by far the best small computer overall. The Samsung NC10-14GB has
the BEST keyboard even compared to regular laptops. Typing is easy and
fast and the keys are nearly normal size (93%). Don't underestimate the
importance of this. The track pad was small at first but I've gotten
used to it. It is really versatile allowing you to scroll left/right
and up/down. In addition the standard driver allows you to zoom or
shrink the screen with easy handstrokes so you can adjust you view of
whatever your working on. The AA-PB6NC6W/US battery life is 5.5 to 6 hours on the
standard battery, enough for almost anything your going to do.
Upgrading RAM is easy with an easy access compartment.
9. Compact, but not too small. Keyboard is not too noticeably small. Three USB ports come in very handy,
although I did run out of ports and had to connect my Power Sentry USB
hub. I have also used the monitor connection to connect it to my 21"
monitor, so that came in handy as well. Performance wise, I really
can't notice any slowdown in speed in comparison to my HP which had
1.5GB RAM and an Intel Pentium 4 processor. I was on the fence about
the blue or white and opted for the white, which I'm happy with because
it's actually easier to see the keyboard. I haven't really used it too
much unplugged from the external power, but when I have, I was able to
get about 5+ hours from the 6 cell AA-PB8NC6M battery. Pretty lightweight . WiFi seems to work pretty well, although I've only used it at
home with a wireless g router.
10. Upgrading the RAM is so easy a caveman could do it. it seems like all netbooks come with 1GB of RAM. If you can
find one with 2GB you probably pay through the nose. Easy access RAM panel to upgrade from the standard 1 GB chip (although
it's strictly a one "chipper"). Manual states 2 GB is the max but it
accepted my 4 GB chip (but only read 2).
Easy access to memory socket: unlike many netbooks, this system has
a memory socket access cover on the bottom of the system. Simply remove
one screw, pop the cover off, and you can easily upgrade the memory.
Some netbooks require significant disassembly to upgrade the memory,
but that is not the case with the NC10.
11. Very quiet: the system fan is barely noticeable in a quiet room, and
not noticeable at all during a college lecture. The hard drive (Samsung
branded) is extremely quiet both at idle and during head seek
operations.
12. Well-designed cooling system: all the laptops I've owned required care
so as not to cover up the cooling system air intake on the bottom of
the system. Samsung has instead placed a row of air intake vents along
the front edge of the system (under the touchpad). It's much easier to
avoid blocking these vents, and as such, the system stays cooler.
